Christmas Light Installation in Laguna Woods
We hang C9 lights on Laguna Woods rooflines, light entries and patio walls, and take it all down in January. Laguna Woods is next door to our base in Laguna Hills, a few minutes up Moulton Parkway — and it is the one city on our list where approval comes before the design.
Homes in Laguna Woods
This city is unusual, and it is worth being plain about why. About nine out of ten residents of Laguna Woods live in Laguna Woods Village, a 55+ community whose own rules require at least one occupant of each home to be 55 or older. The Village is made up of three housing mutuals: United Laguna Woods Mutual, Third Laguna Hills Mutual and Mutual No. Fifty, usually called the Towers.
Most homes here are attached manors and co-ops rather than detached houses. Single-story terraces, garden apartments, low-slung roofs shared with a neighbour, and a patio or a small entry courtyard out front. The Towers are different again — two high-rise buildings of condominiums, where there is no private roofline at all.
What that means for a display is honest and simple: it is usually smaller here than elsewhere. An entry, a patio wall, a railing, a short run of roofline where the roof is genuinely yours, and maybe a tree. Done well, that looks excellent — a tidy, warm front rather than a big roof outline. Done badly, it is somebody's clips on a neighbour's roof plane, which is exactly what the mutual's approval process exists to prevent.
Communities and HOAs in Laguna Woods
Here approval genuinely comes first — before a design, before a quote.
The Village's own site is clear that the common area includes the building exteriors, and that the common area is controlled and administered by the mutual's board of directors rather than by the resident. So anything that attaches to the outside of the building is the mutual's call. What your mutual allows for a seasonal display specifically is a question for them, and we are not going to answer it for you or guess at it.
The practical route: ask your mutual what is permitted for holiday lighting, get it in writing if you can, then send it to us with two photos. We design inside whatever they say. If they say no to something you wanted, you will hear it from us before you have paid anything.
What a display costs in Laguna Woods
Two packages, two published bands, the same in every city we cover: $400–$800 for the Basic Roofline and $1,000–$2,500 for the Premium Full Front.
Most Village homes have a short roofline, so a straightforward roofline job here tends to sit at the lower end of the first band. Where there is very little private roof edge, the display shifts to the entry, the patio wall, a railing and a tree instead. That is full-front work in shape, just at a much smaller scale, and we will quote it honestly rather than pushing you up a package for the sake of it.
If a mutual limits what can go on the building, the quote reflects the smaller job. You are never charged for a plan the rules will not let us install.
How booking works in Laguna Woods
- Ask your mutual first what is allowed for holiday lighting on your building.
- Text two photos of the front of your home along with what they told you.
- You get a real number back inside one of the bands, designed to fit the answer you were given.
- We install between October 15 and December 10, set the timers, keep it running all season, and take it down in January.
Start in September or early October if you can. Approvals take however long they take, and it is far less stressful to have that settled before the install calendar fills up.
Questions we get from Laguna Woods
Do I need my mutual's approval before you can install anything?
Assume yes, and check. The Village's own material describes building exteriors as common area administered by the mutual board, which means what goes on the outside of your building is their decision rather than yours or ours. We will not tell you what your mutual permits — ask them, then send us their answer and we work inside it.
I am in the Towers. Is anything possible up there?
There is no private roofline on a high-rise condominium, so a roof outline is off the table. What is sometimes possible is smaller and indoor-facing — a lit entry, a terrace rail, a tree. That depends entirely on what Mutual No. Fifty allows, so ask them first. If the answer is no, we will tell you there is nothing for us to do rather than sell you something.
How early should I start, given the 55+ community approvals?
September is the honest answer. Installs run October 15 to December 10 and the early dates go first, but the bigger reason to start early here is the approval step — boards work to their own schedule, and you do not want the answer arriving in the last week of November. Ask your mutual in September, text us the photos as soon as you have it, and the rest is easy.
