Christmas Light Installation in Dana Point
We hang C9 lights on Dana Point rooflines, wrap trees, light the entry and take it all down in January. It is south of our base in Laguna Hills — down the 5 and out Crown Valley, or along the coast road — and close enough that we can come back out mid-season.
Homes in Dana Point
Dana Point is really three different places inside one set of city limits, and a display looks different in each.
Monarch Beach is the guard-gated side. Monarch Bay, Ritz Cove, The Strand at Headlands and Niguel Shores sit up on the bluff, mostly large two-story homes with wide frontages, tile roofs and a lot of roof detail. Those carry a long run of line and the full-front package tends to suit them.
The Lantern District above the harbour is the opposite. It is the walkable quarter, and the housing is genuinely mixed: older beach cottages next to new custom builds next to duplexes, on smaller lots with short frontages. A lot of those homes are a tidy roofline job, and that is often the right answer rather than the bigger package.
Capistrano Beach, down toward the San Clemente line, sits somewhere between the two — a mix of older single-story homes and rebuilt two-story ones, some on bluff streets with long views.
The thing all three share is the coast. This is properly coastal ground: salt air and onshore wind off the water. It does not change what we install, but it does change how — everything gets clipped down tight rather than draped loose, on every job in this city.
Communities and HOAs in Dana Point
The gated communities on the Monarch Beach side each run their own association and their own gate. Niguel Shores, Ritz Cove, Monarch Bay and The Strand are the best known. Down in the Lantern District and much of Capistrano Beach, a lot of streets are not under an association at all.
Where there is one, many associations here publish guidelines about exterior and seasonal lighting — dates, colours, whether a timer is required, what may attach to a shared wall. We are not going to claim we know yours, because we have not read it. Send us what it says with your photos and we design inside it. If what you want is not allowed, you hear that before you pay anything.
Access is the other half of the HOA question here. Behind a gate, install day has to be arranged in advance — the community name and the gate procedure, sent when you book, is all it takes.
What a display costs in Dana Point
Two packages, two published bands, the same in every city we cover: $400–$800 for the Basic Roofline and $1,000–$2,500 for the Premium Full Front.
What moves a Dana Point home inside a band: feet of visible roofline, how many stories, how much roof detail there is, and whether the entry, garage, trees, bushes and pathway join in. A bluff-top Monarch Beach home and a Lantern District cottage can be several hundred dollars apart inside the same package, and that is entirely about the house, never the drive.
Tile roofs are common on the Monarch Beach side. Tile does not cost more — it changes the clip we bring, never the fastener, because nothing we install puts a nail or a staple into a roof.
How booking works in Dana Point
- Text two photos of the front, one straight on and one from an angle. Mention the roof material and whether you are behind a gate.
- You get a real number back inside one of the bands, with what is included.
- We install between October 15 and December 10. Gate access gets arranged before the date, not on the morning.
- Maintenance runs all season, then January takedown. We take it down and store it. If the wind moves something or a bulb goes, you call and we come back out.
The calendar opens in September, and the first half of November fills first.

This is the reason everything here is clipped down rather than draped. We use roof-safe clips, never a nail or a staple, and we set them tighter on coastal jobs than we would inland. Season-long maintenance is included in both packages, which on this coast is the part that matters: if something works loose or a bulb goes out, you call and we come back out and fix it.
I am behind a guard gate in Monarch Beach. How does install day work?
Send us the community name and the gate procedure when you book, then leave word with the gate for the agreed date. Niguel Shores, Monarch Bay, Ritz Cove and The Strand all work this way. It is one message from you and it saves the crew sitting at the entrance on the morning.
My Lantern District cottage is small. Is the roofline package enough?
Very often, yes — and we will say so rather than upsell you. On a short frontage a clean C9 outline reads well from the street and the Basic Roofline package covers it, with timers, install, January removal and maintenance included. If your roof edge is genuinely too small to carry the effect, we will tell you that too, and suggest the entry and a wrapped tree instead.
