When to book Christmas light installation
The season is shorter than people think, and it does not fill evenly. Here is how it actually works.
How long is the season?
Shorter than almost anyone expects. We install from October 15 through about December 10. That is roughly six weeks of installing, for every customer we will have all year.
Takedown runs through January, and that part is easy to schedule because nobody minds much which day their lights come down. Install is the opposite. Everyone wants the same three weeks.
Which weeks go first?
The week before Thanksgiving, every year, without fail. People want their lights on when family arrives and when the neighbourhood starts turning on, and that is the same weekend for everybody.
The rough shape of a season looks like this:
- October 15 to early November. Open, easy to book, and the smartest time to be on the roof. Weather is usually good and the crew is not stacked up.
- The week before Thanksgiving. The busiest stretch of the entire season. These days go earliest and they go fastest.
- Late November into the first week of December. Still busy, and this is where a rain delay hurts most, because there is less room behind it to reschedule into.
- December 10 onward. We are wrapping up. A late job is possible, but it depends entirely on what is already booked.
When should I actually get in touch?
We take bookings from September. If you already know you want lights, that is the moment — not because anything bad happens if you wait, but because booking early is the only way to choose your date rather than take what is left.
Getting in touch costs nothing. There is no deposit to get a quote, and saying yes to a quote does not lock you into a package you can never change. It holds a date. You can still adjust colours, add a tree, or move up to a full front later.
What is the last day to book?
Usually somewhere in mid-November, but it honestly depends on how full the calendar already is that year. Some seasons we can still take a job in early December. Some seasons the whole back half is gone by Halloween.
So there is no fixed cutoff we can print here honestly. Text us and we will tell you exactly what is still open. If your week is gone, we will say so — we would rather lose the job than take it and do it badly at the end of a fourteen-hour day.
Does booking early cost more or less?
Neither. The price is the price, and it is set by the house, not by the calendar. We do not run early-bird discounts and we do not charge a rush fee in December.
What early booking buys you is the date you want, more room to reschedule if it rains, and a slower, calmer conversation about the design. In the first week of December, everything moves faster and there is less room for "let us try it the other way."
What about returning customers?
If we lit your house last season, we already have your layout, your footage and your colours in our notes, and your lights are in our storage. Rebooking really is one text.
Returning customers tend to book earliest, which is part of why the good weeks disappear before the season starts. It is worth knowing that when you are deciding whether to wait.
What if I miss the window entirely?
Then talk to us anyway. Two things can still happen. Sometimes a slot opens up because a job moves. And if you are thinking about lights every year rather than just this one, this is exactly the moment to look at permanent roofline lighting, which gets installed outside the seasonal rush and is ready before next November.
What this means for your quote
Send us two photos of the front of your house and tell us the date you have in mind. We will come back with a quote and tell you straight away whether that date is still open. Most quotes go out the same day, and there is no site visit needed for most homes.
